Hitting It

Getting faster on the "easy" runs.
Getting faster on the "moderate" runs.
Will I get faster in the race?

I have hit it pretty hard so far this week....really pushing myself on speed with low heart rate and low exertion.  It's going pretty well.  My calves are crazy tight....stretching is almost painful since my massage therapist I used to stretch too much and was tearing my muscle fascia so now I am very careful.  Right hamstring is always tight and knotted, no matter how much compression or foam rolling I do...poor thing.

My Sentry's new mileage high: 10.02 miles on Monday.  What a good boy!

Trail Run

On Wednesday, I tried my hand (or feet I guess) at a trail run with friend Mak.  I say friend....but really I am almost old enough to be her mother.  She is a senior in high school and is super sweet and smart and focused and hard working and has this desire to be great at everything she does and to learn more about everything she does.  She is the kiddo that every parent wants their children to become.

So, she is a trail runner....her whole family is actually.  She has done a Half-Marathon with the whole family and they have signed up to do another in June. (I didn't even know what a Half was when I was in high school...in fact I didn't know the exact distance until March of last year).  She is an amazing tennis player and soccer player.  This is her in the green:

I know her through a couple of different associations and I saw her one day and told her we should go for a run sometime. She called a few weeks later and we had a great run.  So now we try to meet for a run each week.  She took me on one of her runs...in the dirt.  Super fun and beautiful.  A nice break from all the pavement and buildings I usually run through.
Thanks for a great run!

Week One

And we are off.
New marathon training program.....by Brad Hudson and Matt Fitzgerald.  Marathon Level 2ish.  I say "ish" because Level 2 starts at 49 miles a week and that's a bit high for me right now as I have only been doing about 25 a week since the marathon in November.  The Level 1 starts at 17....a little too low.  So, I decided on meshing the two a bit and see how things go.  I really want to get faster so in this beginning endurance phase, my goal is to push my "easy" runs to be faster yet still easy....how "easy" is running really....I mean easy is sitting on the sofa eating cheese puffs.
Today was a great start.  Sentry and I ran to the dogpark.  He played while I circled a mile and then we ran home. Grand total: 6 miles in 51 minutes.  Yea.
I got these shoes under my Christmas tree....the new Brooks Pure Connect.  I can't say enough about them. They are ALL they are cracked up to be.  True Love. Yes it is.
